TO Godinez A handful of appearances on El Chavo del 8 was enough for him to become one of TV’s most memorable supporting characters. His yellow suit, dark overalls and exotic green visor are truly unmistakable.
The character doesn’t appear much in the show created by Roberto Gomez Bolanos, but when it hits the mark. He is one of the companions of The child and Quico at school, where he makes funny comments that almost always make Professor Jirafales nervous.
Girafales is his main “enemy”. Whenever possible, the character played by Reuben Aguirre she confuses him with difficult questions that he manages to answer in the most curious ways.
Later in time, Godínez appears in some sketches outside the courtroom, mostly sharing the scene with Ninth and the popis.
A low profile of Gómez Bolaños
Perhaps not everyone outside of Mexico knows that it was played by Godínez Horacio Gomez Bolanosthe younger brother (16 months) of Robert.
According to IMDb, Horace -so, Godinez- appeared in only 13 episodes of El Chavo del 8. Where he had the most work was inside The red grasshopper, which featured him in 29 episodes. There he played several minor characters.
Horacio was primarily the marketing supervisor for El Chavo del 8 and also directed. His role as an actor was secondary; he did it essentially because his brother asked him to. So much so that Godínez ended up being the role of him better known than him.
Once Chespirito finished, Horacio turned to work as a screenwriter and television producer. Since 1994 he has been working side by side with Roberto Gomez Fernandezson of Chespirito, in the various productions of his brother.
The producer spent his final days using a cane for a complicated femoral head fracture. In November 1999 he was preparing the tribute that Televisa would pay to his brother in the first months of 2000, when he died of a heart attack. He was 69 years old.
In that tribute, finally issued on April 1, 2000 under the headline “They Didn’t Count on My Cunning”, Edgard Vivar (Mr. Barriga) reminded him: “Well, especially to Horacio Gómez Bolaños, who also played this neighborhood and the small school in the role of Godínez. Something very special and he was a dear friend.”
That day, Roberto could not help but cry at the memory of his dear brother.
There are not many film recordings of Horacio other than those of his performances in Chespirito programs. He was one of the actors in El Chavo del 8 who usually didn’t talk to the press and ended up being one of the few who never gave an interview.
