Was there a ghost at the coronation of King Carlos III? A recent video that has already been viewed by millions of people around the world would seem to prove it.

In the images we see a person in a robe and something similar to a scythe walking in a corridor of Westminster Abbey on the very day of the king’s coronation. The apparition would have taken place at 5 in the morning.

The video draws attention to how terrifying and real it is. While it could easily be an edited broadcast, outlets such as The Sun, Alerta News 24 and the Daily Mail have replicated it on their websites.

Images of the moment recorded from what could be a television were also seen on Twitter, which would show that that person actually passed by and went live.

The reactions on Twitter

The clip quickly went viral on the bird’s social network, where endless wild theories.

“Carlos won’t last long. The grim reaper breathes down her neck and Camila will remain sole monarch,” one person tweeted. Others, more incisive, have blamed “Harry’s wife” or “The Grim Reaper.”

This user gave a more rational explanation: “It could be someone from the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain. Your archbishop accompanied the prayers of Christian leaders during the service.

A fourth – more jokingly – wrote: “It has just been revealed that the strange figure looking like Death was none other than Mr. Bean, who had gone to the wrong costume party.”

It is not yet known who was the person who walked through the door, but most likely the explanation has to do with a theory similar to that of the user who indicated a member of the Archdiocese as “guilty”.

Theories of the Grim Reaper

But of all the ruminations, the strongest has to do with the hypothetical presence of the infamous Grim Reaper.

“Someone else just spotted the Grim Reaper in Westminster Abbey #Coronation,” reads one of the most viral coronation “spectre” tweets.

This is how the figure of the Grim Reaper appears in the popular imagination.

Who is this character? Grim Reaper is what a figure representing death is called in many places in the West.

The concept may have appeared in Europe during the 14th century when the continent was suffering from the Black Death. Back then, death was something very present and it is not strange to think that they have found a dark character to represent it.

The explanation of Grim’s characteristics has to do with context. The robe was what religious figures of the time wore during funeral services, and the scythe was a more commonly used agricultural tool.
