In the midst of the open AI chat GPT craze, Google also announced on the 10th (local time) that it will open an artificial intelligence chatbot ‘Bard’ around the world. Google unveiled its foldable smartphone ‘Pixel Fold’, foreshadowing competition with Samsung Electronics.

According to foreign media such as the New York Times (NYT) and CNN Business, Google disclosed these facts at the annual developer conference (I/O) held at the Mountain View Shoreline MP Theater in California, the United States.

“Seven years into our journey as an AI-first company, we are at an exciting inflection point,” said Google CEO Sundar Pichai. We’re taking it one step further and reimagining all of our products.”

At the same time, it was announced that bards would be opened in earnest in 180 countries around the world, including Korea and Japan. Previously, Google released Bard in March.

Bard is said to be more reliable than competing chatbots such as ChatGPT. Chatbots, which are easy to manipulate information, are not included in search engines, and AI will check information from trusted websites, the NYT reported. In the case of ChatGPT, it is well known that it frequently gives answers containing false information.

Liz Reid, Google’s vice president of search, said bard users expect to have high-quality information, but they don’t want to undermine trust.

Pichai also unveiled PaLM2, a model used to build more powerful AI technologies. Palm 2 is an upgraded version of the previous technology model, Palm, and made the bard more intelligent and creative, Google explained.

Google also introduced a foldable smartphone called the Pixel Fold. Samsung Electronics is the first major big tech company to enter the foldable phone market, which accounts for about 80% of the world.

The Pixel Fold measures 7.6 inches (19.3 cm) when unfolded and 5.8 inches (14.7 cm) when folded, and is priced at $1,799 (approximately 2.37 million won) for 256 GB.

CNN Business reported that Google may have waited for the release until the technology is stable regarding the reason why it released the foldable phone a little later than its competitors. At the same time, he added that there were problems with the screen in the case of the early Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, and that most apps were not optimized for the foldable phone design.

Google also unveiled two new products, the Pixel 7a and the Pixel Tablet, respectively.
