A van loaded with oxygen cylinders exploded this Thursday in central Milan, northern Italy, setting fire to several vehicles that were parked in the area and a large cloud of black smoke which forced the evacuation of a school.
At the moment there is only one lightly injured, a person who would have been burned in the hand, according to Corriere della Sera.
The explosion took place in via Pier Lombardo, in the central area of Porta Romana, around 11:30 and, according to some witnesses, the explosion and fire started from a van which carried oxygen tanksprobably directed to the nearby Italian Auxological Institute.
The fire also involved four cars and some motorcycles parked on the street, a pharmacy nearby and a few floors up the narrow street.
Faced with the danger that the smoke could reach the school, nearby Vasari’s kindergarten was evacuated without problems.
The fire was extinguished just over half an hour after several fire trucks arrived.
