British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party said today it is investigating reports that a lawmaker watched pornography on his phone during a debate in the House of Commons.
Two British newspapers reported that a male Conservative Member of Parliament was seen by his colleagues watching pornography in Parliament.
The issue of sexism in Parliament has peaked in recent days after a newspaper published an article on Sunday in which an unidentified Conservative lawmaker claimed that Angela Rayner, the deputy leader of the Labor Party, was trying to distract Johnson in Parliament by crossing her legs and tying her cross-legged. .
Johnson criticized the comments as being misogynistic. Rayner said he was “very disappointed”.
Conservative chief enforcing party discipline, Chris Heaton-Harris, is investigating complaints of pornography, his office said in a statement.
“This behavior is absolutely unacceptable and will be done,” said a Whips spokesperson.
The Sun and Mirror reported that the allegation emerged at a meeting of Conservative lawmakers Tuesday night, where women in Parliament shared accounts of sexism and harassment by their colleagues.
The new controversy follows a report in the Sunday Times that 56 lawmakers, including three ministers, are facing sexual misconduct charges after they were reported to a parliamentary observer.
