On the 24th (local time), the first anniversary of the Texas elementary school shooting, US President Joe Biden asked Congress to pass stronger gun laws to prevent a series of shootings.

According to American political media Politico and Associated Press, President Biden said at a memorial service for the Texas elementary school shooting held at the White House that day, “Too many schools and too many everyday places are ‘killing fields’ in communities across the United States. It is becoming a site of mass murder)”.

Exactly one year ago today, 19 students and two teachers were killed in a shooting at Rob Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

President Biden said, “In this place (Killing Field), we hear the same message, ‘Do something,’” and “we did something later, but it wasn’t enough.”

At the same time, President Biden appealed that assault weapons should be banned again and that “this epidemic cannot be ended until Congress enacts a common-sense gun safety law that prevents the use of weapons on the street.”

President Biden also emphasized the need for additional measures at the congressional level, such as banning the use of large-capacity magazines, introducing universal background checks, red flag laws, and establishing gun storage requirements.

He also raised his voice against gun manufacturers. President Biden called for legislation to end these immunity, stating that the gun industry is “the only business” that is legally protected even if it costs a large number of lives.

“Responsible gun owners will support such actions to save lives and keep communities safe,” he said. “Now is the time for us to act and speak out. Not as a Democrat or Republican, but as a friend, as a neighbor, as a parent, as a fellow American.”

Vice President Kamala Harris also called for tougher gun control. In a written statement, Vice President Harris urged Congress and the state legislature to “respond to this heartbreaking moment with actions, not just words.”
