In a statement posted on its website, the French Foreign Ministry said it strongly condemned North Korea’s attempt to launch a military reconnaissance satellite, calling it “an attempt in clear violation of a UN Security Council resolution.”

Previously, North Korea’s National Space Development Agency officially acknowledged that it had launched a military reconnaissance satellite, ‘Malligyeong-1’, on a new satellite carrier rocket at 6:27 am on the same day, but crashed into the West Sea due to engine failure of the launch vehicle.

Military reconnaissance satellites are a key element of the nuclear force system, along with nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles to deliver them.
