A female swan, ‘Fay’, along with her four babies, was considered a symbol of the village. Then one day, Fei and her pups suddenly went missing. The police assumed that someone had kidnapped the swan and launched an investigation.

Manliers police said the investigation found that it was three teenagers who abducted the swan. Police arrested them on charges of theft.

A citizen found two baby swans in a local store and reported them to authorities. The other two baby swans were found at the first suspect’s home.

The baby swans returned safely to the pond, but the mother swan had already been eaten.

The police explained, “The suspects went into the pond in the middle of the night and caught a swan nesting in it.”

“The mother swan was eaten,” said Mayor Paul Warell of Manliers. “It’s sad, but they did it.”

The people of Manliers, located southeast of Syracuse, New York, liked these swans enough to draw them on their homepage as well as on products such as hats and T-shirts.

“Swans have been a part of this town for well over 100 years,” said Mayor Worrall. “Our town is famous for swans.”

Fay the female swan and Manny the male swan lived in the village pond for over 10 years, giving birth to baby swans every spring.

Meanwhile, of the three suspects arrested, 16 and 17-year-olds were returned to their parents as they are still minors, police said. A third suspect, an 18-year-old, is awaiting legal proceedings, NBC said.
