Baek In-cheol sets a new Korean competition record in the 50m butterfly… 1st place in preliminary round and advance to finals

At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Baek In-cheol (23, Busan Jung-gu Office) set a new Korean record and a new competition record and advanced to the finals as first place in the men’s 50m butterfly preliminary round.

On the 28th, Baek In-cheol hit the touchpad in 23.39 seconds in the men’s 50m butterfly preliminaries held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center in Zhejiang, China.

This is a new Korean record that Baek In-cheol shortened by 0.11 seconds from the Korean record of 23.50 seconds that he set at the national team selection event last March. At the same time, Shiyang (34, China) also shortened the previous competition record of 23.46 seconds by 0.07 seconds achieved at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

The only Korean athlete to win a medal in the men’s 50m butterfly, which has been an official event at the Asian Games since the 2006 Doha Games, is Yang Jeong-du, who placed third in Incheon in 2014.

Baek In-cheol aims for even greater results in Hangzhou. After the preliminaries, he said, “It feels good to set a new Korean record and a new Asian Games record, but I am not satisfied with this record. My goal is to break into the 22nd second.” “I wanted to get my time down to the low 23s in the preliminaries and get into the low 22s in the finals, but my time in the preliminaries didn’t meet my expectations,” he said.

Baek In-cheol aims for the gold medal in the finals, which will be held at 8:36 pm Korean time.
