According to Russian media, President Putin gave a keynote speech at the official opening ceremony of the ‘3rd Belt and Road International Cooperation Summit Forum’ held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China on this day, saying, “China and Russia have a desire for equal and mutually beneficial cooperation to achieve long-term economic development. “We are sharing,” he said. As the guest of honor at the event, President Putin gave his second keynote speech following Chinese President Xi Jinping.

President Putin said, “The Belt and Road Initiative, based on these basic principles, fits well with the integration processes being pursued in various regions,” adding, “The EAEU, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are working together to successfully develop together.” “It is an alliance,” he said.

In addition, President Putin requested each country to participate in the development of Arctic sea routes.

President Putin immediately entered into talks with President Xi after his opening ceremony speech.

President Putin arrived in Beijing the day before and held an official bilateral summit with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong, Thai Prime Minister Theta Tawisin, Mongolian President Ohna Khurelsukh, and Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith.

He also met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and had informal meetings with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Uzbek President Shopkart Mirziyoyev.

President Putin visited China again one year and eight months after attending the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics in February last year. This is the first time he has met face-to-face with President Xi since President Xi’s state visit to Russia in March this year. It is also his second overseas trip since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for forced migration of children from Ukraine in March.
