Farmer who ate the whole thing developed fever and convulsions for 3 and a half hours
In the past 10 years, a pepper with a spiciness 1.6 times stronger than the hottest pepper has been discovered.
According to the BBC on the 17th (local time), ‘Guinness World Records’ selected ‘PepperX’, bred by a farmer in South Carolina, USA, as the world’s hottest pepper.
The hottest pepper known over the past 10 years was the ‘Carolina Reaper.’ When looking at the Scoville Unit (SHU), which indicates the level of spiciness based on the concentration of capsaicin contained in peppers, the Carolina Reaper is about 1.64 million.
As a result of an experiment at Winthrop University in South Carolina, USA, the Scoville index of PepperX was found to be approximately 2.69 million. Pepper Korea’s hot chicken stir-fried noodles are recorded at 4,404, and Mexico’s habanero peppers are recorded at 100,000.
Ed Curry, who created this pepper by improving the variety, has been cultivating PepperX on his farm in South Carolina, USA for the past 10 years. He was withholding information about the cultivation to protect his intellectual property.
“It was possible because of the hard work of our team,” Curry said. “I knew we had something special, so I only told my family and a few close friends about growing PepperX.”
It is known that Curry began growing peppers as a hobby after overcoming drug and alcohol addiction.
Curry is one of five people who ate an entire Pepper “I felt hot for three and a half hours,” he said in an interview with the Associated Press. “And then I started having cramps.” He also said, “The cramps were terrible. “I lay flat against the marble wall in the rain for about an hour, groaning in pain,” he said.
Many people believe that the spiciness of peppers comes from the seeds, but capsaicin is located in the tissue that contains the seeds, the talus. Guinness World Records said that Pepper
To protect Curry’s intellectual property and generate revenue, PepperX and Seed will not be released. The BBC reported that PepperX will only be available through hot sauce sold from now on.
