It has been reported that the Palestinian armed political group Hamas promised an apartment and $10,000 in cash (approximately 13 million won) to members who infiltrated Israel in exchange for kidnapping hostages.
According to the Jerusalem Post, on the 23rd (local time), the Israeli intelligence agency Shinbeit released a video of the interrogation of a Hamas member who stated these details.
A member of the Shin Bet arrested told investigators that Hamas leaders “promised $10,000, along with an apartment, to anyone who would bring a hostage to Gaza.”
He added, “We were also told to kidnap women, elderly people and children. We were told to destroy houses and take as many hostages as possible.”
Another member testified that he was scolded by his commander after confirming and killing the deceased woman. The fellow members who raided the house at the time had already killed a family, so firing additional shots was considered a ‘waste of bullets.’
When asked whether Israeli civilians were used as human shields during the fighting, Lee responded, “Yes.” They admitted that they injected smoke to force out residents hiding in underground shelters.
The Israeli government calculated that 1,500 Hamas members crossed the border fence in the Gaza Strip without permission on the 7th, massacred 1,400 civilians and kidnapped about 200 people. The crews demolished iron fences with bulldozers, climbed over them by paragliding, and also carried out large-scale rocket attacks in Tel Aviv and other areas.
The Israeli military, caught off guard by Hamas’s surprise attack, has continued to carry out retaliatory airstrikes against the Gaza Strip and has announced a large-scale deployment of ground troops. The cumulative number of deaths in Israel and Palestine due to fighting between both sides exceeded 7,100.
