According to AFP, Deputy Finance Minister Wally Adeyemo said at an event held in Washington, D.C. on this day, “Our goal is to block (Hamas’s) funding stream by building a coalition with countries not only in the region but also around the world.”

During his visit to Europe on the 27th, Deputy Minister Adeyemo said, “We plan to discuss ways to cooperate to attack Hamas’ financial network.” Hamas funds its operations from international financial networks, and the core of this plan is to disrupt this flow of funds.

According to Deputy Minister Adeyemo, the U.S. government had previously designated Hamas as a terrorist organization and imposed various sanctions, but Hamas has been circumventing sanctions through the use of virtual assets such as cryptocurrency.

Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron, who visited Israel, also proposed expanding the international coalition against the Islamic State (IS) to defeat Hamas.

Deputy Minister Adeyemo did not comment on President Macron’s remarks, but emphasized, “The strategy used to respond to the Islamic State and other terrorist groups is the strategy that must be used here as well.”

On the 18th, the U.S. Treasury announced sanctions against Hamas agents and financial facilitators in connection with Hamas’ terrorist attacks against Israel.

Ten key members, agents, financial facilitators and institutions of the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza, Sudan, Turkye, Algeria and Qatar were included in the sanctions. If you are subject to Treasury Department sanctions, economic activities in the United States or all economic activities involving the United States will be blocked.

Brian Nelson, Treasury’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, will also visit Qatar and Saudi Arabia this week to discuss tracking and blocking Hamas’ slush fund portfolio.
