On the 31st (local time), North Korea refuted some media reports that the Palestinian armed political faction Hamas used North Korean-made weapons during a surprise attack on Israel on the 7th, calling it a “groundless false rumor.”

Kim Sung, North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations, pointed out at the United Nations General Assembly’s Israel and Palestine-related meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York that day, “Some Western countries are resorting to slander campaigns against North Korea in order to forcibly link us to the Middle East crisis.”

In particular, Ambassador Kim claimed, “Some media outlets belonging to the U.S. government are spreading unfounded and false rumors that North Korea’s weapons appear to be being used to attack Israel.”

He continued, “They are also creating groundless public opinion that North Korea will take advantage of conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine to escalate tensions in the region and use a full-scale diplomatic strategy of intimidation.”

Ambassador Kim said, “It is clear that the United States’ evil intention is to shift responsibility for the Middle East crisis caused by the United States’ unilateral policy and double standards toward Israel to a third country and avoid criticism from the international community focused on the United States.” He said.

The US government-affiliated media outlet mentioned by Ambassador Kim is presumed to be the Voice of America (VOA).

VOA recently reported a series of interviews with Israeli Ambassador to Korea Akiba Tor, who said, “There are North Korean-made weapons in the Gaza Strip, and I believe Hamas is using them.”

Ambassador Kim said, “North Korea is watching with caution the illegal actions of the United States, which is causing wars and conflicts around the world and shifting responsibility for them to independent sovereign countries.”

He continued by emphasizing that North Korea “believes that the current serious crisis in the Gaza Strip must end immediately and that all civilians must be protected through full implementation of the UN General Assembly resolutions.”

He also emphasized his “unwavering support” for Palestine.
