Butler County Sheriff’s Office: Grandmother intentionally shot baby
A gun is raised during an argument between family members… Child is in critical condition even after two surgeries
Sheriff “A vicious crime… The suspect seems to have no remorse”
An Ohio grandmother was arrested on charges of intentionally shooting her 6-month-old granddaughter in the head, seriously injuring her.
According to Fox News on the 11th (local time), the Butler County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio reported on social media that Mia Desiree Harris (43) was charged with three counts of felonious assault, including shooting her granddaughter. He said he had been indicted. They also said that the charges may change as the investigation progresses.
Sheriffs responded to the scene at around 1:50 a.m. on the 9th after receiving a report that an infant had been shot at a home in Liberty Township, Ohio. Arriving deputies confirmed that the 6-month-old baby had been shot in the head.
Harris fled the scene before deputies arrived, but was found on the highway a short time later and arrested.
After the accident, the child was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The child has undergone two surgeries but is still in critical condition.
Witnesses to the shooting identified Harris as the shooter. The sheriff’s office said Harris intentionally shot several members of his family before shooting the child.
Harris reportedly grabbed the gun after several family members got into an argument. He allegedly shot his daughter and then missed the shot before shooting his young granddaughter.
A sheriff who responded to the scene said in an interview with American broadcast media WXIX, “It was not an accident. “It was intentional,” he said. “The worst thing is that the person who shot the baby was his grandmother,” he said, adding, “This is one of the most disgusting and vicious criminal acts I have ever seen.”
“Harris appears to have no remorse for shooting the child,” the sheriff said. “I feel bad for the baby, for the family, and for everyone who is going through this.”
Harris is currently being held in the Butler County Jail without bail.
