He dressed up as Santa Claus to surprise his children, tried to enter from the balcony and died when he fell from the 25th floor

The period leading up to Christmas Eve ended with a real tragedy for one family. A 25-year-old young man, dressed as Santa Claus, died after falling from the 25th floor in front of his loved ones and dozens of children and neighbors who flocked to the building where he lived.

The man wanted to imitate Santa Claus and attempted to enter by hanging from the main balcony of his house. But in a bad maneuver, he didn’t properly secure his body with a harness, he got hooked on some overhead cables and fell into the void before the eyes of the children and families.

In a video circulating on social media you can see the moment in which the intrepid climber dressed as Santa Claus lets himself go from the railing.

The 25-year-old came out of a balcony to cling to some safety cables but couldn’t and immediately fell into the void.

Several children witnessed the shocking moment as the crowd screamed excitedly. The event took place in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

The man, whose identity was not revealed, died instantly.

The origin of Santa Claus

Nicolás de Bari stood out for his enormous charity towards those most in need, caring especially for children, something he has in common with the current figure of Santa Claus. He was in fact known as episcopus puerorum, that is, bishop of children.

Nicholas of Bari died on 6 December 345. Being a date very close to Christmas, he established himself as the saint and the ideal figure to distribute sweets and gifts to the little ones on Christmas Day. Starting from the 6th century AD, a series of temples began to be built in honor of Nicholas of Bari and, in 1087, his mortal remains were transferred to the city of Bari, in Italy.

In the 12th century, the Catholic tradition of St. Nicholas spread throughout the European continent, and in the 17th century, immigrants of Dutch origin exported this custom to the United States. And so the story of Santa Claus was born.
