The tablecloth, always in fabric, can be simple or more flashy. You have to reach a contrast between the dishes and the decorations: If these are eye-catching, the tablecloth must be simple and vice versa.

As on Christmas Eve, the ideal is to use the best crockery available, what is generally reserved for important occasions. If the plates are white the tablecloth can be colored and vice versa. Singles are also an accepted and very practical proposal. Another option? The classic runners, long and narrow pieces of fabric that will give the decoration a touch of personality.

THE napkins They must be made of fabric and, unlike Christmas Eve, it is better to forget about red and green and opt for white or a pastel shade. They are placed on the plate at the beginning of the meal, and one way to highlight them is to present them with a gold, silver or blue bow. You can also use more attractive napkin rings, with pearls, carved metal or some detail that hints at the holidays.

On this occasion, it looks great to place a “flat place” under the different plates where the diners will receive their food. The “underplate” serves to protect the table and the tablecloth from possible stains and remains in place for the entire dinner while the others are changed.

You also need to highlight the best glasses and mugs. From left to right The glass or cup is for water and the glasses for white and red wine. If there is space at the table, the champagne glass can also be placed for the midnight toast.

THE Even the cutlery has its own order: the fork or forks go to the left of the plate, the knife and spoons to the right. At the top, perpendicular to the rest of the cutlery, is the dessert spoon.

THE centerpiece They are always allies of decoration. There is never a shortage of seasonal flowers (you will have to take into account the tone of the rest of the decoration) and classic white candles. But in this case dried flowers, pine cones and other less conventional elements are a good alternative to let your imagination fly.
