Hunter Biden, the second son who is considered the ‘sore finger’ of US President Joe Biden, made a surprise appearance at a hearing related to him being held in Congress.

According to congressional media outlets The Hill and CNN, Hunter appeared without notice at the Oversight Committee hearing held at the House of Representatives on the morning of the 10th (local time). The Oversight Committee was scheduled to discuss a resolution on this day to charge Hunter with contempt of Congress before the full House.

The Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives is conducting an impeachment investigation against President Biden in connection with allegations of Hunter receiving large sums of money from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma and preferential treatment in the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax evasion investigation. In relation to this, a subpoena was issued to Hunter last year.

However, instead of responding to the summons, Hunter held a press conference outside the Capitol, and the Republican Party has been pushing a resolution in the House of Representatives to charge him with contempt of Congress based on his failure to comply. However, on the day this resolution was being discussed, Hunter, a party member, suddenly came to the council.

His unannounced appearance drew criticism at the hearing, especially from Republican lawmakers. Representative Nancy Mays said to Hunter on this day, “You are in no way above the law,” and Chairman James Comer said, “We will not give you special treatment because of your last name.”

Hunter, who appeared before the council accompanied by a lawyer, sat in the audience while lawmakers discussed the resolution, but left before the vote. Afterwards, she was surrounded by reporters in the hallway of the building and asked several questions, but she reportedly did not give any specific answers.

On this day, the House Oversight Committee voted on a resolution against Hunter, and the House Judiciary Committee also took similar action. The next step is a vote by the full House. During the voting process that day, lawmakers from both parties appeared to argue, either supporting or criticizing Hunter.
