“The basic structure of cross-strait relations cannot be changed… “The country will eventually be unified.”

In response to the victory of Lai Ching-de, the pro-American independence-oriented ruling Democratic Progressive Party candidate, in Taiwan’s presidential election on the 13th, which is seen as a proxy war between the U.S. and China, China said, “This result does not represent the ‘mainstream public opinion’ of Taiwan.”

After the election results were confirmed, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, the Chinese government’s Taiwan affairs department, issued a statement in the name of spokesperson Chen Bin-hua, saying, “This result does not represent Taiwan’s ‘mainstream public opinion’ and Taiwan is China’s Taiwan.” “He said.

The Taiwan Affairs Office said, “This election cannot change the basic structure and development direction of cross-strait (China-Taiwan) relations, nor can it change the common desire for compatriots on both sides of the Strait to become increasingly closer and closer,” adding, “The motherland will eventually be reunified. “It is even more unstoppable that unification will inevitably occur,” he emphasized.

“Our position to resolve the Taiwan issue and complete national unification is consistent, and our will is as solid as a rock,” he said. “We recognize the ‘One China Principle’ and the ‘92 Formula (One China’).” “However, we intend to maintain the ‘verbal agreement between China and Taiwan that outlines the use of their respective names’ and oppose any moves toward division of Taiwan’s independence and interference by external forces,” he said.

The Taiwan Affairs Office said, “We will work with Taiwan-related political parties, organizations, and people from all walks of life to promote cross-strait exchanges and cooperation, deepen cross-strait convergence and development, promote Chinese culture, promote cross-strait relations and peaceful development, and promote the great cause of national reunification.” “I do it,” he emphasized.
