Ticket fraud for ‘big pop star’ Taylor Swift’s Australian concert is rampant.

The Guardian reported on the 24th (local time) that 273 cases have been reported so far regarding ticket fraud for Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ performance to be held in Sydney and Melbourne in February. The damage amounted to $13,500 (about 180 million won).

It is known that victims were mainly affected by fake social media accounts that contacted them offering to sell tickets. These accounts made up stories about not being able to go to the performance, reassured the victims, and extorted ticket prices.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) criticized this as a low-level act that took advantage of the many people who wanted to go to the performance.

ACCC deputy chair Katarina Rowe said they were working with the judiciary and social media platforms to deal with the situation, but feared there would be an increase in fraudulent activity as the show drew closer.

The ACCC recommended that you only purchase tickets from trusted sellers (authorized resale sites) and to stop purchasing tickets if you are prompted to do so by a suspicious account. Additionally, even if you are contacted through a friend or acquaintance’s account, you are urged to check with the person in person.

Taylor Swift’s performance continues to be a ‘ticket crisis’ with unprecedented reservation rates. When booking tickets for Australian performances in June last year, 1 million people registered advance information, and 4 million connected on the same day.

‘The Eras Tour’ is a performance that encompasses Taylor Swift’s life by defining each of her 10 albums as an era. Recently, the ‘Dieras Tour’ surpassed $1 billion in revenue (approximately KRW 1.33 trillion), becoming the highest-grossing tour in the world.

Recently, the movie ‘Taylor Swift The Eras Tour’, which edited the live concert video, was released in Korea and attracted 30,000 viewers.
