Urges to enter ‘full presidential election mode’… Haley’s response: “What political insiders think”

There have been reports that the U.S. Republican Party is pushing a resolution that would effectively nail former President Donald Trump as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

According to the U.S. Congressional media outlet The Hill on the 25th (local time), a draft resolution declaring former President Trump as the ‘Presumptive Nominee’ for the 2024 presidential election is currently being reviewed within the Republican National Committee (RNC).

A presumptive candidate refers to a candidate who has no worthy challenger within the party. Former President Trump won the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries this month and secured 32 delegates, but he needs a majority of 1,215 to become the presumptive candidate.

The resolution is said to have been proposed by RNC member David Bossie, who is considered a close associate of former President Trump. Prior to submitting the resolution, Laura McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, appealed for the party to rally support against former President Trump.

The resolution included the following: “We declare former President Trump as the de facto candidate for the 2024 U.S. presidential election, and from this moment on, we accept all candidate supporters as valuable members of the ‘2024 Team Trump’ and move into ‘full finals mode.’”

Former President Trump has not yet secured a majority of delegates to become the presumptive nominee, but if the resolution passes, the process of submitting a majority vote could proceed through the RNC’s annual winter meeting to be held in Las Vegas next week.

However, it appears that there will be significant opposition from former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, who is still in the primary. Former Ambassador Haley expressed her displeasure at the Dispatch, which first reported the resolution, saying, “Who cares what the RNC says?”

He also said, “We will let millions of Republican voters across America, not a bunch of Washington (political) insiders, decide who will be our party’s candidate.”

Former Ambassador Haley, who lost the primary-style New Hampshire primary following the Iowa primary, which was held in the form of a caucus, is aiming to turn the tide in the primary in South Carolina, where she served as governor.
