A man was caught by the police while practicing for a marathon in a British town in the middle of the night. It was none other than the 25kg refrigerator he was carrying on his back. He may have been misunderstood as a refrigerator thief, but when he said he was training for a marathon to raise donations for diabetes patients, the police shook his hand and wished him good luck.

On the 29th (local time), the BBC reported that Daniel Fairbrother (34), who was running on the road while carrying a refrigerator, was caught by the police in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, London, England on the 7th.

At the time, Fairbrother was driving on the road with his headlights on and carrying a refrigerator weighing about 25 kg. The police, who were suspicious of him, stopped a police car and intercepted him. When the police asked, “Is that a refrigerator on your back?” he answered, “I am training to participate in the London Marathon.”

Fairbrother told the BBC: “I was a little embarrassed, but I wasn’t concerned at all. The police were just doing their job. “Even if I ran into the police 10 times while running, I wouldn’t have been annoyed,” he said.

After hearing his story, the police shook his hand and cheered him on. A Hertfordshire police source told the BBC: “We wish him all the best in his marathon training.”

Fairbrother plans to participate in the London Marathon on April 21 carrying a refrigerator. The reason was to support her own best friend, ‘Sam’, who suffers from type 1 diabetes. “I tried last year, but it didn’t go as planned,” he said. “I promised my friend I would come back a bigger and stronger person.”

“I didn’t know what diabetes could do to people,” Fairbrother said. “I’m not a doctor who treats diabetes, but I can be someone who raises money for diabetes.”

He decided to run a marathon after seeing on the news in April last year that British Marine Sam Hammond had broken the ‘world record for the fastest marathon carrying household appliances.’

Currently, the ‘world record for the fastest marathon carrying household appliances’ registered in the Guinness World Records is 4 hours 52 minutes and 10 seconds held by Team Hammond. Hammond attempted to set a world record by carrying a 26.3kg refrigerator to raise funds for the military charity SSAFA.

Fairbrother aims to raise £10,000 (about 16.9 million won) in donations for Diabetes UK. To date, he has succeeded in raising 4,284 pounds (about 7.25 million won) out of 10,000 pounds.
