The surprise result of the Republican primaries in Nevada, overshadowed by Trump’s absence

As for the Republican primaries in Nevada, both prestigious newspapers confirmed that voters have given the opportunity to do so “none of the candidates” 61.8% of support, while 31.6% went to Nikki Haley, former governor of South Carolina.

Trump’s name has not appeared on ballots since will be presented separately under the “caucus” format this Thursday and, presumably, he will get the 26 contested delegates in that state.

Republicans settled on two models in Nevada: primaries this Tuesday and, just two days later, the “caucuses”, which are a type of assemblies in which voters must show up at a specific time to vote for their candidate.

For decades, Nevada has held caucuses. However, because these nominations tended to cause some chaos, state lawmakers passed a law in 2021 that abandoned that voting model and established that state authorities must hold primaries when there is more than one candidate.

But this law did not specify how the Republican Party would award Nevada’s 26 delegates to the winner, so Taking advantage of this loophole, Trump pressured the Nevada Republican Party to ignore state law and continue with its caucus tradition.

A bad night for Nikki Haley. Losing by Nearly 30 Points in Nevada to “None of These Candidates”. “Be careful, he will soon claim victory!”, Trump expressed on his social network Truth Social, which he launched after being kicked out of Twitter, although Elon Musk has now lifted his suspension.
