Cecilia Morel Montes, widow Sebastiano Pinerapublished a video in tribute to the deceased former president of Chile after the state funeral that the Chilean government dedicated to him before the final farewell. “Thank you so much @sebastianpinera. “We’ll see you again soon” wrote the woman together with the collection of images spread on social networks.
Less than a week after the helicopter crash that took the life of the 74-year-old two-time president of the neighboring country, the former first lady published a video bringing together old images of Piñera, of which it is not specified when they came from, where the former president reads the message he left in a book and which today take on a new meaning.
“I dream with a more united Chile, in which we all recognize ourselves as equal, in dignity and rights. A freer, more just and more prosperous Chile, without violence and in peace,” he says.
“I dream of a Chile in which all its children can develop the talents that God has given us, realize their plans and make their dreams come true. A Chile where we all live full and happy lives together with our loved ones”, the voice of the former president is heard while the images of the official funeral vigil held by the government presided over are seen Gabriele Boric.
“If we can dream it, we can do it”closes the first message with Piñera’s voiceover during the video lasting just over two minutes.
The video continues with the recording of the funeral where Citizens queued for hours to say goodbye who governed Chile twice, between 2010 and 2014 and from 2018 to 2022. Some images of the last, most intimate family farewell, already at the cemetery, are also shown.
Among the scenes that have been immortalized is that of his wife receives Boric’s embrace, who, despite being at the antipodes of ideological thought, was very close to the family and moved by Piñera’s tragic death.
Boric and the former presidents of Chile held a conference honor guard next to Piñera’s coffin, moment which was also captured by cameras and included in the collection of images published by Morel Montes.
The video was set to music with one of the most famous songs of Good boy, A kiss and a flower, of 1971, which we are talking about games and nostalgia.
One of the most exciting moments of the video is the detailed shot the drawings that Piñera’s grandchildren made to greet him and which were placed next to the coffin.
Another touching moment is the homage paid to him by some of the miners rescued from the San José depot in October 2013. The former president stood by the mine during the rescue operation and welcomed each of the rescued workers.
The video ends again with Piñera’s voice. Sitting at his desk on the occasion of an anniversary – this can be deduced because in front of him there is a small cake with a candle -, the former president states: “No one knows the day or the time, I make a recommendation to everyone you.: We must tread lightly in this life and prepare for the next”.
The final image is that of that same desk, already empty, while the melody of Nino Bravo continues in the background.
