Havana, May 2 (EFE).- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Monday demanded that his country attend the IX Summit of the Americas and said the United States cannot veto its existence.

Díaz-Canel made these statements while attending a solidarity forum with Cuba in Havana, where he addressed more than 1,000 representatives from over 50 countries who visited the country on 1 May.

According to the information obtained from the official media, Díaz-Canel said about the meeting planned to be held in Los Angeles (USA) at the beginning of June, “We do not want the summit of the USA and its electoral states, but the Summit of the Americas.”

The Cuban president described Washington’s policy towards his country as “failed” and denounced that the United States has the goal of “applying maximum pressure to destabilize”.

However, he said he was confident that with this policy, the United States would “again fail in its purpose of overthrowing the revolution”.

Thinking that “solidarity will not be hindered”, Díaz-Canel added, “Humanity’s great challenges are solved by solidarity and cooperation, not confrontation and violence.”

In this regard, the president thanked the declaration signed by the forum participants against the exclusion of Cuba – and other countries on the continent – from this meeting of leaders.

1,077 participants from 60 countries and 219 associations and organizations signed another statement against the US blockade (embargo).

Díaz-Canel took the opportunity to thank the forum participants for their support for Cuba and their participation in the Labor Day event at Revolution Square in Havana.

Cuba “will never forget this day, or those who came to join us in the first celebration of May 1, in the very difficult conditions that the epidemic has left the working world of all latitudes,” he added.

Countries represented included Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay, Colombia, Panama, Spain, Canada, South Africa and others.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced last week that the US government has excluded his country from preparations for the Summit of the Americas.

The next day, Brian A. Nichols, Assistant US State Department Assistant for Western Hemisphere Affairs, admitted that it was “unlikely” for his country to invite Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
