More than 3,000 civilians have died in Ukraine since Russia invaded the country in February this year, according to the UN (United Nations) released on Monday, the 68th day of the conflict (2).
The entity believes that the death toll is even higher, but that the war has made it difficult to access various parts of the country and services such as hospital care and body recognition. It is estimated that at least 5.5 million people have fled Ukrainian territory since the start of the war.
Mariupol
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that at least 100 civilians have been evacuated from the Azovstal steelworks complex in Mariupol, where resistance against Russian forces operates. The city has been besieged since the beginning of the conflict between the countries.
Civilians left the region in a UN-led operation after complaints that Russia did not respect the humanitarian corridors in the region.
According to the Ukrainian National Guard, there are still about 200 civilians at the steel plant, including 20 children.
Loofah Massacre
The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office has identified the first suspect in the massacre of civilians in Bucha, where more than 400 bodies were found, after the Russian forces left the scene.
Sergey Kolotsey, commander of the Russian National Guard, was named by the Ukrainian prosecutor general as a suspect for killing four unarmed people and torturing a civilian.
A child died today following a Russian rocket attack in Odessa, in southwestern Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said. A church and a residence were hit as a result of the launch.
Odessa Municipality said another child was injured and taken to a hospital in the region. There were three other people in the bombed building, but their condition was not disclosed.
