On the 18th (local time), the New York Post reported that a Delta Air Lines flight bound for Detroit that departed from Amsterdam, Netherlands on the 13th turned back just an hour after takeoff.

According to reports, the door of a bag in the luggage compartment above the plane’s seat was open and there was rotten fish inside. Maggots from the fish rained down on the passengers’ heads.

A passenger who was sitting in the row in front of the seat where the incident occurred said, “My family and I were sitting in front of the seat in question.” “The woman in the back shouted to the flight attendant, ‘Maggots are falling on my head,’ and when she turned around, she saw maggots writhing on the seat. “There was,” he explained at the time.

There was a fish wrapped in newspaper in the bag in the luggage compartment, and another passenger who was nearby at the time said, “At first, it didn’t smell much because it was sealed, but after opening the bag, there was a terrible smell.”

Regarding the passenger who boarded with the fish, he said, “When the flight attendant asked who owned the bag, he answered that it was his without any sign of strangeness. He seemed surprisingly calm considering the situation.”

Another passenger on the plane said on social media, “It was absolutely disgusting,” and “It ruined the travel of hundreds of people.” “We had to wait another day to return to Amsterdam and catch a new flight,” he said.

Delta Air Lines reportedly provided passengers with 8,000 air miles, hotel room rewards, and $30 in meal vouchers.

“After returning to the gate, the aircraft was taken out of service for cleaning and passengers were reassigned to the next available flight,” a Delta Air Lines official said.
