According to the Financial Times (FT) on the 21st (local time), United Airlines announced that it would resume transit flights between Newark, New Jersey and Tel Aviv, the Israeli capital, from March 2 and begin direct flights from March 6.

It plans to operate flights from Newark to Tel Aviv via Munich, Germany on March 2nd and 4th, and return flights from Tel Aviv to Newark via Munich on the 3rd and 5th of the same month.

Major U.S. airlines, including United Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines, suspended operations on U.S. routes to Israel following the war between Israel and Palestine in October last year.

Before the Israeli-Palestinian war, United Airlines operated four direct flights daily from Newark, San Francisco, Washington, and Chicago to Tel Aviv.

United Airlines said in a statement that it worked closely with security experts and government officials to conduct a detailed safety analysis in making this decision.

“We will add a second daily Tel Aviv flight from Newark as soon as travel demand recovers,” he added. Flights departing from cities other than Newark said, “We plan to consider resuming operations in the fall.”

CNN reported that United Airlines’ decision to resume flights follows a series of similar announcements by European airlines, including Germany’s Lufthansa, France’s Air France, and Poland’s LOT.

Currently, among major U.S. airlines, Delta Air Lines has decided to suspend operations to Israel until April 30th and American Airlines has decided to suspend operations to Israel until October 28th. Among them, Delta Air Lines said last month that “there is a possibility of resuming flight operations in the spring.”
