Two current and former presidents, who appear likely to face off in a rematch in this year’s U.S. presidential election, will visit the southern Mexican border area on the same day to face off on immigration policy.

According to the Associated Press on the 26th (local time), White House Spokesperson Currin Janpier announced that President Biden is scheduled to visit Brownsville, Texas, in the Rio Grande Gorge, near the Mexican border, on the 29th.

This is President Biden’s second visit to the border during his term, and during this visit, he plans to meet with border agents and discuss the need for bipartisan legislation related to immigration policy.

Spokesperson Janpier explained, “President Biden wants to clearly convey his message to the American people.”

According to three sources who requested anonymity, former President Donald Trump is also scheduled to visit Eagle Pass, Texas, about 520 kilometers from Brownsville, on the same day.

As the number of illegal immigrants entering the United States continues to increase, immigration policy is becoming a major issue that voters are paying attention to in this year’s presidential election.

The Biden administration is cracking down on the border and encouraging immigrants to enter the country through legal routes, but is also allowing them to apply for asylum regardless of their route of entry.

For this reason, the number of immigrants is overwhelming capacity, and in December last year, the number of arrests due to illegal border crossings reached an all-time high.

Former President Trump, who is seeking re-election, is attacking President Biden’s immigration policy as a failure. The Trump campaign criticized President Biden for being responsible for “the worst immigration crisis in history.”

President Biden is said to be considering executive orders, including the use of Immigration and Nationality Act 212(f), which suspends the entry of aliens who are not in the national interest, to limit illegal immigrants’ asylum applications.

However, the AP reported that no executive order is expected to be announced during this visit to the border area.
