US President Joe Biden remains “fit to carry out his duties”, with no significant changes in his health at 81, his doctor said on Wednesday after an annual general check-up.
“He remains eligible to perform his duties and fully fulfills all of his responsibilities, without exemptions or accommodations,” White House physician Kevin O’Connor said.
After the exam, carried out by White House doctor Kevin O’Connor, Biden joked with the press about the results.
“They said I look very young,” the president said, adding that the exam went the same as last year.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre also announced that the doctor is satisfied with the results.
“The president does not need a cognitive test. And this is not my opinion, it is the opinion of his doctor and his neurologist. (…) He undergoes a cognitive test every day, when he switches between topics to the other,” he said at a press conference.
Jean-Pierre insisted that Biden has been able to carry out his work over the past three years and stressed that “we must not forget that he is leading a historic presidency.”
Both the Republican opposition and some members of his own party have questioned the health of the president, who aspires to obtain the Democratic nomination for this year’s presidential elections.
