“Tragic fate when our territory is invaded”
Warning to the West in annual State of the Union address
FT obtains confidential Russian documents on ‘use of tactical nuclear weapons’
Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened on the 29th that nuclear war was possible if the West sent troops to Ukraine. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron countered the plan proposed by North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states to dispatch troops to Ukraine with a public warning. A day ago, the British Financial Times (FT) also reported on a confidential Russian military document that showed that Russia had been training for a scenario of using tactical nuclear weapons from the beginning of the war in case of an armed conflict with a foreign power.
“They (NATO) are preparing to attack our territory, but we remember the fate of those who tried to invade our territory,” President Putin said in his annual State of the Union address. “The fate of these (NATO) is much worse.” “It would be tragic,” he claimed. He went on to say, “Not only are the weapons capable of defeating them (NATO) on our territory, but all of this could trigger the actual use of nuclear weapons, which is very dangerous.” He added, “Don’t they (NATO) understand this?” This is a threat that the West could trigger a nuclear war if it sends troops to the Ukraine war.
The FT disclosed Russia’s nuclear war scenario, saying, “We recently obtained 29 classified documents from an anonymous reporter prepared for Russian military training between 2008 and 2014.” This document states that tactical nuclear weapons can be used when a foreign country attacks Russia, when Russia is restrained from escalating a military conflict, or when there is a possibility of losing a battle or losing territory.
Another Russian Navy training document also describes a tactical nuclear attack situation. These include: △Enemy forces entering Russian territory, △Defeat of border guard units, and △An enemy attack using conventional weapons is imminent. Specifically, it includes more than 20% of the Russian strategic nuclear submarine (SSBN) force, more than 30% of the nuclear-powered submarine (SSN), and more than three cruisers.
What is noteworthy is that Russia also assumed China, which is currently forming an anti-Western alliance, as a potential enemy. According to one document, the Russian military’s eastern military district, which is in charge of East Asia, has been rehearsing the use of tactical nuclear weapons, assuming a Chinese invasion. As the controversy spread, Russia denied it, saying, “The authenticity of the document is questionable.”
