Otárola claimed that he had made the decision to resign to “give peace of mind” to the Governmentalthough he believed he was the victim of a conspiracy for which he held former president Martín Vizcarra (2018-2020) directly responsible.

“I have no doubts about it Behind all this is Mr. Martín Vizcarra“, he underlined before specifying that he makes himself available to “all investigations” that will be launched, as he refuses to be involved in any type of corruption.

He stated that “in the last few hours the country has witnessed a plot, a conspiracy” against him and that “several characters acting in the shadows” participated in this “media operation”.

“All necessary investigations and assessments must be carried out,” he added before stating that he has no doubt that Vizcarra “is behind all this”.

In a message then published on the social network Vizcarra described the accusation as “delusional” of the prime minister and assured that he had never “participated in political plots of any kind”.

He added that he agreed with Otárola’s resignation, but announced that he would file “a formal complaint” against him, for what he considers “aggravated defamation”.

On Monday, Yaziré Pinedo offered an interview in which he acknowledged that he had been the prime minister’s partner for a short time, although he assured that the broadcast conversation was manipulated to give the impression that it was current, when in reality it took place in 2021, before Otárola entered government.

He added that Vizcarra, the president’s brother Nicanor Boluarte and the lawyer César Figueredo organized a plot to remove Otárola and thus be able to introduce a new prime minister close to them.

Vizcarra and Figueredo denied the accusations and even stressed that they did not know the young woman.
