Support for Korean companies entering the Middle East
“Naver and others have announced their intention to collaborate with the private sector”
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security has decided to strengthen digital government cooperation with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE side expressed its desire to develop by collaborating with Korean information and communication (IT) companies in the process of building a digital government.
On the 5th (local time), Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min met with UAE Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Omar Al Olama, the world’s first minister in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), and discussed the use of AI in the field of digital government. The UAE is considered an emerging digital powerhouse, receiving the same ‘very high’ rating (13th) as Korea in the 2022 UN e-Government evaluation.
The UAE government expressed interest in Korea’s digital government development model, including traffic analysis using AI and closed-circuit (CC) TV, and digital healthcare. An official from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security said, “They expressed their desire to develop by collaborating with Korean private companies such as Naver. To this end, we decided to attend the ‘United Nations Public Administration Forum’ jointly held in Seoul by Korea and the United Nations in June this year.” He said.
On this day, Minister Lee met with Minister Ohud Al Rumi, UAE Minister of Government Development and Future Planning and Chairman of the High-Level Committee on Government Digital Transformation, and discussed cooperation in the field of digital platform government. Digital platform government is one of the national tasks of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and refers to a system that allows residents to conveniently use all government services, such as mobile ID cards, in one place.
During the meeting that day, discussions were held not only on the computerization of government services but also on the issue of alienation from digital services due to population decline and aging. Minister Lee said, “Dubai is an important city in the Middle East for digital platform government exports, and we will continue to make efforts to enable domestic IT companies to enter the market.”
