Peruvian President Dina Boluarte vowed to name her new prime minister on Wednesday Gustavus Adrianzenwho was the representative to the Organization of American States in Washington.
Adrianzen, a 57 year old lawyerhe succeeds Alberto Otárola who resigned on Tuesday after the release of an audio in which he was allegedly heard encourage and offer work to a womanin a case reported by a group of legislators as abuse of power to obtain intimate advantages.
The new prime minister, the third of Boluarte’s managementhe is remembered because he was reprimanded in 2023 by an aide who told him he was “lying” during a hearing of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights that was considering following up on the recommendations of a report on deaths during protests calling for Boluarte’s resignation.
Adrianzén had declared yes “absolutely banned” that Peru has a “systematic policy that violates human rights”.
As the woman next to an elderly man continued to make it clear that Adrianzén was lying, he responded by raising his voice “they are the violent ones, they are the ones who caused the deaths, they are the violent ones”.
President made no further changes and retained the rest of the ministers in the Otárola-led cabinet from 2022.
Boluarte began his mandate on December 7, 2022 succeeding Pedro Castillo (2021-2022) who attempted to dissolve Congress while under investigation for corruption but was removed by the same Legislature.
After the start of his administration, protests occurred in the southern Andes for three months resulting in the deaths of 49 civilians by gunfire in direct clashes with security forces.
