Corina Yoristhe delegate candidate of the Venezuelan opposition that María Corina Machado presented last week as her delegate representative, has not rested a minute since she entered the Venezuelan electoral hurricane.
The 80-year-old academic of philosophy and Spanish language, it was rejected without reason by the electoral system controlled by the regime of Nicolás Maduro while they allowed the provisional registration of Edmundo González until the unitary platform designates the definitive one. In the midst of so much confusion and uncertainty, Corina Yoris, spoke with Clarion.
-What will be the next steps given that the application process has concluded with the registration of Edmundo González on the Platform?
-Now the Unitary Platform must make decisions corresponding to the maintained candidatures. At this moment, Manuel Rosales’ writing appeared on the scene, which I personally don’t like, and Edmundo González’s writing, which I don’t like being defined in a derogatory way as the yellow cover, but in any case that The decision must be made in unit within the platform, preserving the unit as much as possible. If that unit breaks, the situation changes. It’s up to the platform to continue the fight and keep that unit from breaking. Let’s see what continues and as María Corina says let’s go step by step.
-How long does it take them to make those decisions?
-We have a problem because we do not have the electoral calendar, the regime has not published it to plan our work and make decisions, we know that changes to nominations can be made up to 10 days before the July 28 elections. So we still have time to evaluate the situation. Now the time between one thing and another will all depend on the dynamics of the process these days.
-Could changes also be made to applications between April 1st and 20th?
-If this is also contemplated. One of the things we asked the CNE was to publish the calendar and they didn’t do it. At least they responded by granting a 12-hour extension when this Tuesday we were able to register Ambassador Edmundo González Urrutia, but it is important that they publish the calendar to know the deadlines established for each stage of the process.
-And what role would Corina Yoris have had in all this until 10 days before July 28, the date on which the candidate of the Opposition Unit will be defined?
-I will answer as several members of the Platform and María Corina herself have done, the candidate of the unit is me, because we must take into account that the registration was not obtained, not because they found some personal obstacle which is not my case, but because it was a political problem and they disguised it as a technical one, it was linked to María Corina and therefore they had to hinder me.
-Why is the regime so cruel against María Corina and her decisions?
-Because it represents the will of millions of Venezuelans who want change. He won and obtained 93% of the nearly three million votes in the primaries. And this is what scares Maduro, who fears losing due to María Corina’s avalanche of options.
-And what role will Ambassador Edmundo González play as an interim candidate until the Platform appoints another in his place?
-Ambassador González will likely put together Unity’s final candidacy. But I cannot anticipate a decision that has not yet been made. My nomination was approved unanimously by the Platform and until it is revoked I remain a candidate.
-Of the 12 candidates allied to Chavismo who have registered, including Rosales, do you think that María Corina will evaluate the possibility that each has of winning to add to their wealth?
-This is not a decision that María Corina makes unilaterally, but rather within the platform. If we make unilateral decisions we break the unity which is what guarantees we can reach the end of the entire process. We cannot make decisions isolated from the platform and vice versa. The platform cannot make decisions without consulting María Corina.
-So Rosales left alone without consulting anyone?
-Governor Rosales, with all the appreciation I have for him, is not a representative of the unity of the platform, he signed unilaterally.
-Could there be an agreement or some negotiation between Rosales and María Corina?
-These things cannot be ruled out. We have a wide range of possibilities before us and we must show strength and unity, which is what will ensure we reach the end.
-How do you see the complex Venezuelan electoral landscape, do you see any light in the tunnel?
-Since we started this journey we have bet that we will win the elections, no matter how complicated the process may be. We are living in very difficult times, but that doesn’t mean we will give up. We know what we are doing to win and collect the presidential elections.
-And in this payment for the elections do you see yourself included in the candidate they will decide in the end?
-I can’t break the unit. There is Ambassador González, this is an obstacle course to pass the baton, we must win with those who represent unity, we have the mandate of millions of Venezuelans who voted for María Corina in the opposition primaries. She won, not me.
-What do you think about MCM?
-He has impressive political maturity and incredible detachment, no one here is a personalist. We will not abandon the electoral path.
-Is hope for change maintained despite obstacles?
-Naturally we will work so that unity is not broken and hope and trust are not lost. We will resist and we will not give up. Let’s continue forward. We live important moments. Let’s get to the end. And they won’t take us off the electoral path.
