French health authorities have asked their citizens in recent hours not to consume Fraîch’Up pizzas, from Italian brand Buitoni after linking them to some intoxication of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) in children, which resulted in two deaths.

Investigations into serious HUS cases reported in France began on January 1 and this link was confirmed by epidemiological, microbiological and traceability analysis.

On March 28, they were notified 75 cases of HUS in metropolitan France among children under 18 with an average age of seven years, of which two died.

They met different regions of France: in Hauts-de-France (16), New Aquitaine (11), Pays de la Loire (10), Ile-de-France (9), Brittany (7), Grand Est (5), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes ( 4), Provence- Alps-Côte d’Azur (3), Burgundy-Franche-Comte (2), Normandy (2) and Occitanie (2).

Pizzas will be contaminated with Escherichia coli bacteriaproducers of Shiga toxins that can cause abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.

Health authorities recommend that people have frozen pizza in their freezer “separated from their box, and the range and brand cannot be identified or clearly identified, that they do not consume and destroy them“.

The company began withdrawing on March 18th all pizza in this range sold from June 2021.

However, authorities are asking consumers if they find out that Fraîch’Up pizzas from Buitoni they are still for sale, let the authorities know on the SignalConso platform.

Their statement stressed the importance of visiting the doctor after consuming the removed product if, within 10 days, there were people present. diarrhea, abdominal pain, or vomiting, or if within 15 days they have signs of extreme fatigue, pallor or decreased urine volume, which darkens. EFE
