The Ukrainian photojournalist Maxim Levin was found dead, according to Ukrainska Pravda portal reported today. Levin, 40, who worked at several international media outlets including the AP and Reuters news agency, has been missing since March 13 on the front line near kyivin the Vyshhorod district, where the fighting took place

“On April 1, after a comprehensive search on village of Huta Mezhyhirska in the kyiv region, police found the lifeless body of Maks Levin, “Ukrinform wrote, citing the Ukrainian newspaper where Levin worked, LB.ua.

Accompanied by Oleksiy Chernyshov, a soldier and former photographer, Levin arrived in Huta Mezhyhirska on March 13 to document the outcome of the Russian invasion.

The two left the vehicle they were riding in and headed to Moshchun town. At that moment, however, communications were broken and no more news from Chernyshov.

Levin was born on July 7, 1981 in the kyiv region, has contributed to a large number of international and Ukrainian newspapers, and most his projects focused on the war in Ukraine.

“Every Ukrainian photographer wants to take a picture that will stop the war,” he said at the time. However, Levin has dedicated himself to several projects for humanitarian purposes, linked to international organizations such as WHO, Unicef, and OSCE.

He is survived by four young children, his partner and elderly parents.
