According to excerpts from the book quoted by New York Timesthe US president at the time believed that the United States could claim he was not behind such a missile strike on Mexican ground, said Mr Esper, who served as Donald Trump’s defense secretary between July 2019 and November 2020 .

The former White House tenant allegedly asked twice if the armed forces were capable fire missiles at mexico to destroy drug labswritten by Mark Esper in his memoir entitled A Sacred Oath (A sacred oathin French), claiming that Donald Trump’s statements silenced him.

Donald Trump decided to dismiss Mark Esper in November 2020, days after the announcement of the results of the American presidential election.

The former Pentagon leader had openly opposed, a few months earlier, the deployment of troops to suppress anti-racist demonstrations in the country, which contributed to the breakdown of their relationship.

Mark Esper wrote that on the sideline of these demonstrations in June 2020, the president, who was irritated, would have launched at the Oval Office: Can’t you just shoot them? Shoot them in the legs or what.
