Moments of uncertainty and tension are being experienced this Friday in central Madrid after an explosion in a building that has so far left 17 injured, one of them serious.
The episode took place early in the Spanish afternoon, in a building on Calle de General Pardiñas, corner of Ayala, in the Salamanca district of the Spanish capital. The injured, in principle, show minor injuries, except one, whose picture is more complex. Four in total were taken to hospitals.
“Firefighters in Madrid are looking for two workers lost after the explosion, ”the emergency services of the Spanish capital reported on Twitter, referring to two workers working in that building.
The windows of the four -story building were shattered due to the explosion, a journalist from the AFP news agency confirmed. Many emergency service vehicles are in the area.
When asked about a possible gas leakage that caused the explosion, the city’s mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, simply specified that “what is known so far is that a building task“.
“Neighbors reported that there was a loud explosion, but firefighters prefer at the moment not to advance any hypothesis,” he added from the scene.
The explosion generated an intense column of black smoke. While medical personnel cared for the injured, police and firefighters cordoned off the streets, which were filled with lips.
According to the final balance of rescuers, a total of 17 people were injured, four of them were taken to hospitals, one of them was in serious condition.
