The British Parliament invited American Elon Musk this Thursday (5th) to discuss the billion-dollar acquisition of Twitter, which was announced in April but has yet to be completed.
The initiative, launched by Congressman Julian Knight, aims to clear doubts about Musk’s future plans for the social network, particularly on issues such as freedom of expression and user safety.
Boris Johnson’s government had previously warned Musk about how to manage Twitter as it is a platform widely used by world leaders like the British Prime Minister.
In mid-2018, the parliamentary committee tried to summon Mark Zuckerberg to a meeting, but the Facebook founder decided to decline the invitation.
Regarding the Twitter acquisition, Musk announced that he had raised approximately $7.14 billion to fund the transaction. The Tesla boss is still talking to social network co-founder Jack Dorsey to raise additional funds.
The billionaire, now the world’s richest man, announced at the end of April that he had acquired a 100% stake in Twitter in an operation valued at approximately US$44 billion. The acquisition, which will be completed during the year, will see the social network break away from Wall Street and become a privately held company.
