A 6.3-magnitude earthquake shook the coast of Taiwan on Monday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The earthquake was also felt in the capital Taipei, but no damage has been reported so far.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 27 km and 70 km southwest of Yonakuni, a Japanese island near Taiwan, according to the USGS.

Taiwan and its surroundings experience frequent earthquakes as they are near the junction of two tectonic plates.
