ROME, MAY 10 (ANSA) – The Ukrainian government decided on Tuesday (10) to confiscate Russian real estate and financial assets on its territory to use it to finance the country’s rebuilding.
The announcement was made after it was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers by Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, as quoted by the Interfax agency.
The measure provides for the transfer of Russian assets to the State-controlled National Investment Fund.
“We will take everything Russia has in our country and use these funds to strengthen the army, support the population and rebuild the country,” he said.
This week, Ukrainian prime minister Volodymyr Zelensky estimated that his government has received nearly $12 billion in foreign aid, including military, economic and humanitarian aid, since the start of the war on February 24.
