Ukraine has announced that its troops have regained control of part of the Russian border in the region of Kharkov (northwest), the country’s second largest city, which has been the scene of constant bombings since the beginning of the Russian occupation.
Ten people were killed in missile attacks in the past 24 hours, six of them in the Donetsk region (east); two people (injured nine) in the bombing of a hospital in Severodonetsk in the Luhansk region; and two in Mykolaiv (south), according to Ukrainian authorities.
The Defense Ministry said in a statement that Ukrainian forces were “expelling the Russians and advancing to the border.” A video released by the same agency shows armed soldiers in front of a border post painted blue and yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
“We are proud of our soldiers who restored the symbol of the border. We thank everyone who risked their lives and liberated Ukraine from the Russian invaders,” Oleg Sinegubov, governor of the Kharkiv region, told Telegram.
On Sunday, Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovich announced that Russian troops had withdrawn to the Donbass region south of Kharkov after the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
