(Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Thursday that Russian forces had “totally destroyed” the Donbas industrial zone and accused Russia of carrying out the bombings while intensifying its offensive in the neighboring country.

Zelensky also accused Russian forces of trying to kill as many Ukrainians as possible and inflict as much damage as possible, reiterating the accusation that Russia had committed genocide.

Zelenskiy said that as Ukrainian forces continue to advance to liberate the Kharkov region east of Kiev, Russia is trying to put more pressure on Donbas, located in southeastern Ukraine.

He added that 12 people were killed in the “brutal and absolutely senseless bombing” of Severodonetsk on Thursday.

“There are constant attacks on cities in the Odessa region, in central Ukraine. The Donbas have been completely destroyed,” he said.

“This is a deliberate and murderous attempt to kill as many Ukrainians as possible, to destroy as many homes, social facilities and businesses as possible.”
