Australian Labor Party opposition leader Anthony Albanese claimed victory in Saturday’s parliamentary election and pledged to turn his country into a renewable energy “superpower”.
Speaking to his supporters after Conservative Prime Minister Scott Morrison conceded defeat, Albanese said, “The Australian people voted for change. I am honored by this victory.”

“We can seize this opportunity for Australia to become a renewable energy superpower,” said Albanese, confirming its commitment to tackling climate change.
In a country hit by severe fires, floods and droughts in recent years, Labor has pledged to advance environmental policies, one of the Conservative government’s key shortcomings.
