Russia announced on Saturday 21 that it had attacked and destroyed an arms depot sent to Ukraine by the United States and the European Union (EU) near Kyiv.
According to the Interfax news agency, the bombing in the Zhytomyr region was revealed at a press conference by Moscow Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov.
“Long-range precision missiles stationed in the Sea of Kalibr destroyed a large number of weapons and military equipment delivered to Ukrainian troops by the United States and European countries in the Donbass, near the Malyn railway station in the western Zhytomyr region,” he said.
The Russian government claims that Moscow launched cruise missiles from a frigate of the Black Sea fleet that “hit the Ukrainian region with a large amount of weapons and military equipment.” Konashenkov also released the missile launch video.
The destruction of weapons sent by Western countries to help Ukraine fight the soldiers of invading Russian President Vladimir Putin has become Moscow’s new focus in the war.
The Kremlin threatened with reprisal any country that aided Volodymyr Zelensky’s fighters, emphasizing that it plans to respond to weapons shipments and sanctions imposed on his country by the West.
Even today, Britain announced that it has started talks with its international allies about sending modern weapons to Moldova to protect it from Russia.
According to Western intelligence services, Russia will not limit itself to Ukraine and should expand the war to Transnistria, a pro-Moscow separatist region located in Moldova.
British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss told The Telegraph she “wanted to see the country in the southwest of Ukraine equipped with NATO standards”.
“Putin has been absolutely open about his ambitions to create a great Russia, and the failure of his attempts to take Kiev does not mean he has abandoned those ambitions,” Truss said.
The British minister noted that if the plans are accepted, members of the NATO military alliance will supply Moldova with modern weapons to replace Soviet-era equipment and train soldiers to use them.
Moldova, in southwestern Ukraine, is not a member of NATO and there are fears it could be Putin’s next target after Ukraine.
