Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that Russia has not given up on conquering the Ukrainian capital.

He added that Moscow’s priority is to “occupy the whole country”. “The main target is still the capital of Ukraine, the heart of the country,” he said.

Russian troops made an attempt to take Kiev early in the invasion, but retreated in the face of Ukrainian resistance and began to focus on conquering the Donbass and the south of the country.

“Moscow does not accept that we are part of Europe. It wants to invade Ukraine and I don’t think it will stop at the border. We are defending not only Ukraine but all of you because we have the same values”, repeated Klitschko.

Currently, the main stage of the war is the city of Severodonetsk, one of the most important cities of the Lugansk province, which has been hosting separatist conflicts since 2014.

“About 90% of the houses in Severodonetsk were damaged by the bombings,” said Oleksandr Stryuk, head of the municipal administration.
