Police said a massive fire engulfed an industrial building in Spreitenbach on the outskirts of Zurich on Sunday, and three people were treated by emergency services after breathing in the toxic fumes.
“We don’t know if there are still people inside the building because we haven’t been able to enter the building so far,” said Adrian Bieri, spokesman for Switzerland’s Aargau cantonal police. “There is a lot of smoke and the building is still burning.”
He told Reuters the building appeared to be a facility used to store combustible materials used in road construction.
Broadcaster SRF added that the fire brigade was on the scene with lots of equipment and a large plume of smoke could be seen from miles away.
In its online edition, the newspaper Tagesanzeiger showed clouds of smoke covering the horizon.
