Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Monday that “no compromise” was acceptable “at the moment” regarding a European embargo on Russia’s oil, requesting “guarantees” for his country’s supply.

There isn’t any compromise so farhe told the press, coming to a European Union (EU) summit where the Twenty-Seven will discuss a text concluded on Monday morning aimed at allowing the adoption of the sixth sanctions packageEU against Moscow, blocked by the opposition in Budapest.

The compromise gives Russia an embargo on oil by the end of the year, with a temporary exemption for crude carried by the pipeline. Hungary, a landlocked country with no access to the sea, depends on 65% of its consumption on Russian oil carried by the Druzhba pipeline that dramatically passes through Ukraine.

Mr. Orban considered that this exemption was a good solution.

Our problem is if something happens to the pipeline that carries Russia’s oil, which Ukrainians and others are talking about., he explained. In this case, we need a guarantee that we will receive oil by sea or elsewhere.

First we need to find solutions, and then the penaltieswarned the ruler of sovereignty, insulting the irresponsible behavior of the European Commission which prepared a package of sanctions.
