To mark the 70th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Edward Island Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry unveiled the Platinum Jubilee Garden on Wednesday.
The plants were carefully selected to honor the Queen, now 96, and represent Mi’kmaq as well as the four original inhabitants: the French, Irish, English and Scots, Antoinette Perry explains.
The plant that represents them in a unified way is lavender.said Antoinette Perry, who stood in front of many flowers and plants planted in the yard of Government House, Charlottetown.
I’m so happy with the result because there are elements here that affect himhe said, speaking of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Lieutenant-Governor insisted that the clematis be planted in memory of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, who died last year at the age of 99.
” He’s always on her mind, we know that. […] For me, it warms my heart. “
The garden is open to the public, who can stroll there from dawn to dusk, or sit and admire the breathtaking view of the river. Hillsboroughgives Antoinette Perry as an example.
Each of the ten provinces and three territories participated in the national initiative marking the longest reign in British history.
